000 ABPZ30 KNHC 011447 TWSEP Monthly Tropical Weather Summary NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 800 AM PDT Tue Aug 1 2023 For the eastern North Pacific, east of 140 degrees west longitude: Three tropical cyclones, Hurricane Calvin, Tropical Storm Dora, and Tropical Depression Four-E, formed in the basin for the month of July. Shortly after passing southwestern Mexico, Beatriz dissipated on 1 July, while Adrian became a post-tropical remnant low well to the southwest of the Baja California Peninsula on 2 July. Dora formed on the last day of the month, and was still a tropical depression at the end of the month. The formation of three tropical cyclones is below the long-term average for July. The number of named storms in the basin so far in 2023 (4) is below the long-term average of 5 or 6 through July. However, the season had a late start, with Adrian marking the second-latest formation of the first named storm of the season during the reliable period of records (1971-2023). In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures the combined strength and duration of tropical storms and hurricanes, 2023 is well below the long-term (1991-2020) average.
