MONTHLY TROPICAL WEATHER SUMMARY...CORRECTED
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
800 AM EDT THU OCT 01 2015
Corrected major hurricane name in first paragraph
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
Four named storms formed in the Atlantic basin during September,
Two of these reached hurricane strength, with Joaquin becoming a
major hurricane. One unnamed depression also formed during the
month. Based on a 30-year (1981-2010) climatology, four named storms
typically form in the Atlantic basin in September, with two or three
becoming hurricanes and one or two reaching major hurricane status.
In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures the
combined strength and duration of tropical storm and hurricanes,
activity in the Atlantic basin has only been about 37 percent of
the 30-year average through the end of September.
Reports on individual cyclones, when completed, are available at the
National Hurricane Center website at
www.nhc.noaa.gov/data/tcr/index.php?season=2015&basin=atl.
