000 ABPZ30 KNHC 011457 TWSEP Monthly Tropical Weather Summary NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 800 AM PDT Wed Jun 1 2022 For the eastern North Pacific, east of 140 degrees west longitude: One tropical cyclone, Hurricane Agatha, formed in the basin in late May. Agatha made landfall near Puerto Angel, Mexico as a Category 2 hurricane, which is the strongest May landfall on the Pacific coast of Mexico since record keeping began in 1949. On average, one named storm forms in May every other year, with a hurricane forming about once every four years. In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures the combined strength and duration of tropical storms and hurricanes, May 2022 was about 80 percent above the long-term (1991-2020) average.
