000 ABPZ30 KNHC 011401 TWSEP Monthly Tropical Weather Summary NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 800 AM PDT Fri Jul 1 2022 For the eastern North Pacific, east of 140 degrees west longitude: Two tropical cyclones, Hurricane Blas and Tropical Storm Celia, formed in the basin for the month of June. Both systems remained offshore in the eastern Pacific, but still brought heavy rains and high surf for portions of Central America and Mexico. The formation of two tropical cyclones, one becoming a hurricane, matches the long-term average of about two named storms forming in June with one of those becoming a hurricane. The number of named storms (3) in the basin so far in 2022 is only slightly ahead of the long-term average (2.5) through June. In terms of Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE), which measures the combined strength and duration of tropical storms and hurricanes, 2022 is running about 45 percent above the long-term (1991-2020) average.
