About this map: The Tropical Points of Origins maps show the zones of origin and tracks for different months during the hurricane season. These figures only depict average conditions. Hurricanes can originate in different locations and travel much different paths from the average. The shaded areas indicate the liklihood or potential of tropical storm formation and development in those regions based on climatology for the basin. Arrows depict the prevailing tracks that storms tend to follow based on the time of year, though it’s important to understand that all storms do not following this trend. Late August and September are the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season and tropical storms can essentially develop anywhere within the Atlantic basin.
